Designing a Modernist Fusion: Interior for PKO Bank Polski’s Katowice Branch, inspired by the city’s iconic Modernism Trail.

The Brand

PKO Bank Polski, one of the largest banks in Eastern Europe, adopted a new strategy focused on integrating its branches with the cultural and natural features of their surroundings. The Katowice Branch 3 was located along the city’s renowned Katowice Modernism Trail, a protected zone featuring iconic modernist architecture. The project sought to reflect the bank’s forward-thinking approach while celebrating the rich architectural heritage of the area.

Solution

The interior design concept embraced the historical significance of the Katowice Modernism Trail. I designed unique illustrations and a custom console that featured a backlit map of the trail, highlighting key modernist buildings. Under my artistic direction, my colleague, talented photographer Grzegorz Janoszek captured black-and-white photographs of these architectural landmarks. I ensured the photographs were printed on Fabriano paper using a high-quality pigment process at the renowned Hergon print shop. This combination of tailored design elements created a harmonious blend of the bank’s functional needs with a tribute to the city’s architectural legacy, perfectly aligning with its strategic vision.
